Madinatut-Tawhid/English11
Then we bear witness that He was One in His attributes and all attributes were cut off from the realm of His holiness, and this is what He has destined for Himself, if you are among the knowledgeable ones. Then know that the multiplicity of the worlds of attributes and names will not be associated with His essence, for His attributes are exalted above His essence, and no one will know how this is except Him, the Mighty, the Exalted, the All-Forgiving, the Merciful. And all these names and attributes return to His prophets, messengers, and chosen ones because they are the mirrors of the attributes and the zenith of names. Otherwise, He is exalted and hidden in His essence and attributes, and He manifests all of that in His prophets with the most beautiful names and the highest attributes, lest a soul be deprived of the recognition of the attributes in the realm of names. And indeed, this favor is from Him upon the worlds.
The monotheist has the right to be reconciled with himself in the presence of these attributes in the messengers of God, as they are none other than His exalted attributes, so that he will not witness any difference between Him and them, except that their attributes appeared by His command and were created by His will. This is the truth of monotheism in this position. We have favored you to be among the steadfast. The knowledgeable one will not witness anything, neither in the heavens nor on the earth, except that he sees God standing over it and witnessing everything with the tongue of his secret, that there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Great. The knowledgeable one ascends to a position where he witnesses the effects of the manifestation of God in everything, and thus he confirms to himself that He was, and there was nothing with Him. So glorified is He and exalted above what these polytheists say.
