God has commanded that every adulterer and adultress pay a fine (diya - blood money) to the House of Justice. The sum is nine mithqals of gold. [note 1] For the second offence double the punishment. This is what the Possessor of Names commanded for this world, and for the world to come a degrading punishment has been destined for them.

Whoever is overcome by a sin, let him repent and turn back to God. He, indeed, forgives whom He wills and He is not to be questioned about what He wills. He is the Relenting, the Powerful, the Praised.
